About the Project...
Uni4U is an outreach programme led by the Access Centre at University of Galway, engaging over 200 sixth class students each year from DEIS and Link primary schools across Galway City. Participants visit the campus weekly over six weeks, enjoying a range of interactive workshops designed by university departments — one of which is Italian language and culture.

Discover italian with UNI4U
In 2024, Sveva Zafferri and Federica Curreli delivered a total of 4 Italian workshops. In 2025, Nicolò Strano and Silvia Alessandrini led 2 further sessions in a similar format. During these workshops, students explored Italian through quizzes, games, and cultural challenges, gaining fun, hands-on exposure to language and traditions. In 2024, we had the pleasure to work with the following schools: Radharc na Mara, Scoil Bhríde, Scoil Chroí Íosa, Merlin Woods, and Mercy Primary.

Inspiring curiosity and confidence
Our aim for the Uni4U project is not only to foster language learning but also to play our part in inspiring curiosity, confidence, and connection to university life. We seek to provide a valuable pathway to enhance cultural diversity and support greater access to higher education for all students.

Demystifying higher education
Uni4U’s broader mission is to demystify higher education for young learners, giving them meaningful experiences on campus, opportunities to engage with university staff and students, and a taste of what studying languages or other fields could look like.
