Summer Camp
The Italian Summer Camp is a two-week intensive summer school for secondary-school students. It represents an immersive experience in Italian language and culture. Participants engage in interactive games, creative workshops, and cultural activities that bring the language to life. The camp combines fun with learning, helping students build confidence in speaking Italian while connecting with peers who share a passion for Italy.
AI-powered Subtitling Workshop
This series of interactive workshops offered students a fresh way to experience the Italian language through curiosity, media and technology. Guided by Dr. Francesca Nicora and Sveva Zafferri, participants from local secondary schools explored lesser-known Italian regions, analysed real TV dialogues, experimented with subtitling tools and reflected on AI in their daily lives — discovering that language learning can be cultural, creative and future-focused.
Hands-on Italian
The series of workshop Hands-On Italian has been delivered over the years in secondary schools to promote Italian language and culture. Participants explore Italian through practical activities, including language exercises, cultural games and quizzes, and expressive hand gestures that reflect Italian communication styles. These workshops make learning dynamic and engaging, helping students connect with the language in a memorable and culturally-immersive way.
Think Languages Day
Think Languages Day is an annual event held at the University of Galway, aimed at promoting the study of languages at the higher education level. Secondary schools are invited to the campus to participate in a series of interactive workshops, each focusing on a different language offered at the university. Such workshops are designed to engage Transition Year students in dynamic activities that highlight the cultural and academic benefits of learning languages.
Tra-balliamo Project
With Tra-balliamo, learning Italian becomes a performance! Developed by Dr Francesca Nicora and Dr Michela Dianetti and funded by PPLI, this project uses dance, movement, and theatre to bring language and culture to life for secondary school students.
